CAÑON CITY, Colo. (Feb. 19, 2025) – Visionary Broadband continues making significant progress on its comprehensive broadband expansion in Cañon City, bringing 5-gigabit fiber internet to critical community services and residential neighborhoods.

Construction is well underway to establish the core infrastructure needed for a reliable, high-speed network. The company is prioritizing connections to government offices, health care providers, School District RE-1, and first responders such as the police and fire departments.

At the same time, Visionary is extending service to residential areas, enabling many homes to gain access to fiber internet sooner than anticipated. The project will bring fiber internet access to 2,000 homes by the fall 2025.

“We have doubled the size of our construction crews, which will speed along the fiber build to Cañon City residents and businesses,” said Visionary Broadband CEO Brian Worthen.

“We know how important reliable internet is to everyone, and we are excited to deliver.” Local leaders have praised the project’s progress and emphasized its importance to the community’s future.

“We’re thrilled to see this project progressing,” said Ryan Stevens, Cañon City administrator. “Reliable high-speed internet is essential for our community’s growth and success, supporting everything from public safety and education to healthcare and business development. This expansion is a game-changer for Cañon City residents and institutions.”

The project is funded by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and private investment from Visionary. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with more than 90 percent of all homes and businesses in the Cañon City area ready to connect to high-speed internet.
